FSU Marketing Office Wins National Graphic Design Award

Tallahassee, FL— The Oglesby Union Marketing and Communications Office at Florida State University was just recently honored with an American Graphic Design Award and featured in the 2008 issue of Graphic Design Magazine. The national publication is a showcase of this year’s winners in the categories: logos, publications, websites and packaging. The Union’s new logo is featured among other major advertising agencies and brands such as Delta, Lipton Tea, and Kleenex.

The marketing office was charged with re-branding the overall image of the Union in the fall of 2007. The multi-phased branding campaign began with the revamping of the Union’s logo. The goal was to design an insignia that was fresh, artistic, and a graphical representative of the union community. What lies at the center of the diverse programs, activities, organizations, and functions associated with the Oglesby Union are the interactions and exchanges with visitors, students, faculty, and staff. The graphic for the logo is the human element, not drawn, but a silhouette created from the blending of diverse shapes of garnet, gold and black. “I am very proud of the extremely talented student graphic designers, illustrators, web developers and sketch artists who continue to create the most incredible work,” says Union Marketing Director, Aron Myers. “They are the future art directors and graphic designs who, through innovation and artistry, will continue to impact the field in a very positive way.”

The American Design Awards was founded in the 2000 by design educator Brandon McKay, and graphic design professionals Kevin and Art Javid in San Diego, California. Their mission is to provide a fair and ethical platform for graphic and web designers with varying experience levels and disciplines to compete on, while also providing them a global audience to showcase their innovations. The Oglesby Union marketing and communication office is located at the Oglesby Union on the campus of Florida State University.
