Crenshaw Lanes to Host the 7th Annual Crenshaw Sport Bowling Classic

Tallahassee, FL— You can experience the challenge of bowling on the same lane patterns that the Florida State University’s Bowling Team sees in intercollegiate competition during the 7th Annual Crenshaw Sport Bowling Classic on July 25-26 and August 1-2. Competitions are held for both Youth and Adult, scratch and handicap.

Single tournaments will be held on July 25 and August 1 at 9am and 5pm; and on July 26 and August 2 at 12:30pm. Team events will be held on July 25 and August 1 at 1:30pm; and July 26 and August 2 at 9am and 5pm. The event will take place in the Florida State University Oglesby Union in the Crenshaw Lanes.

The Florida State University’s Bowling Team competes exclusively on Sport Patterns. House patterns traditionally consist of a large amount of oil in the middle of the lanes with significantly less oil on the outside. A bowler can project the ball to the outside and allow it to read the lane, recover and hit the pocket. In Sport Bowling, the oil pattern has a more equal amount of oil across the lane. This requires more accuracy and consistency to be successful. In addition to Collegiate Bowling, the PBA, USBC Masters and International Events all utilize Sport Bowling Patterns.

“This sport lane condition is like hitting the back tee in golf, it rewards consistency and accuracy”, said Head Crenshaw Bowling Coach Michael Fine. For this seventh annual bowling event, Fine said he expects the event to be one of “discovery and awakening, and will definitely be a challenge”! Participants will be arriving from Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi. The event will not only be a fundraiser for the Florida State University’s Bowling Team, but Fine says that “it’s always fun to see youth programs come out and also to get our name out there locally and nationally”.
